What Are Double Degree Programs?
Double degree programs are international study programs developed by KIT in close cooperation with selected foreign partner universities. As a student of a double degree program, you will do part of the studies in Karlsruhe and part of the studies at the partner university abroad. In the end, you will be conferred two degrees: the Bachelor’s or Master’s degree of KIT and the foreign degree of the partner university.

As a student of one of KIT’s double degree programs, you will not only study at a German University of Excellence with unique research opportunities, but will also be conferred the degree of another renowned foreign university.
Join lectures by renowned experts of the partner institutions, obtain insights into latest research institutions of other countries, or experience first-hand the sometimes completely different university and science systems!
Saving Time
For a double degree program, you will need no or only little additional time compared to regular studies for just one degree – thanks to the well-coordinated study contents and automatic recognition. A double degree program can be completed within a much shorter time than two separate study programs.
Automatic Recognition
KIT will automatically recognize the study achievements made at the partner university. Vice versa, the partner institution will recognize passed courses at KIT.
This is due to the close cooperation of both universities in developing study programs and in quality assurance. Recognition of study achievements is laid down clearly in the cooperation agreement of both universities – there will be no discussions regarding recognition of subjects.
Remission of Tuition Fees and Grants
As a student of a double degree program, you are exempted from the payment of tuition fees at the foreign partner university. Hence, you may obtain a foreign Bachelor’s or Master’s degree without having to accept the sometimes very high tuition fees you would have to pay as a regular student there.
In addition, you may receive financial support under various grant programs. For details, read the program description (list at the end of the page) or contact the International Students Office.
A Well-organized Network
As a student of a double degree program, you are no lone fighter, but part of a group of German and international students having the same goals and interests and facing the same challenges. Contact the Alumni Clubs for practical help and first-hand recommendations.
Of course, you will have fixed contact persons at the KIT departments, the International Affairs Business Unit of KIT, and at the partner university, if you need support in academic and organizational matters. Support also includes preparatory and accompanying language courses.

Your two degrees will work as exclusive entry tickets to a world full of opportunities! Work in Germany, in the partner country, or the rest of the world? A doctorate or maybe even a double doctorate?
No matter how you will decide: With the degrees of two renowned universities and your extra portion of scientific, language, and intercultural competence, many doors will be open to you worldwide!
Which Double Degree Programs Exist? Where Can I Find Further Information?
Double degree programs have a long tradition at KIT, such that the number of offers is rather high. Most double degree programs have been agreed upon with France. However, double degree programs are also offered in cooperation with other European countries and countries in Asia and South America.
In the list below, all double degree programs of KIT are sorted according to countries. Every cooperation is linked to a program description where you are informed in more detail about the course of studies, the application procedure, funding options, and data of your contact partners.
In general, it holds: The respective KIT Department is responsible for content support. In case of double degree programs with France, both students and KIT Departments are supported by the German-French Initiative (KIT-DeFI). Under Doppelabschlussprogramme, you will obtain useful information on e.g. grants.
