By establishing the International Excellence Grants (IEG) with funds granted to the University of Excellence concept “The Research University in the Helmholtz Association I Living the Change,” the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) intends to
- to strengthen its renewal capability and top-level research,
- to expand its network to strengthen international recruiting, and
- to support strategic cooperation with international top-level universities and research institutions.

In a festive ceremony in the Senate Hall on Monday, November 27, 2023, Vice President Prof. Dr. Thomas Hirth and Chairwoman of the SCHROFF Foundation Susanne Schroff presented the first “International Excellence Award” and the “Fellowship of SCHROFF Foundation” to the renowned chemist Prof. Dr. Thalappil Pradeep from the Indian Institute of Technology Madras for his excellent and globally influential research.
