All students who have studied abroad through one of our exchange programs are required to submit a personal experience report upon completion of their stay. This report allows you to share your experiences and reflect on your personal takeaways from the stay. Your report is intended to give future exchange students an idea of what to expect and to help them prepare. Please submit the report as soon as possible after your return from your stay abroad.

In Mobility Online, you will enter your experience report using a form. We recommend drafting the report in a word processor, from which you can copy the content into the various form fields. You can download a template here.

You should share your impressions in the following areas:

• Credits Transfer Process
• Leisure
• Contacts and Integration
• Personal Development and Conclusion

This experience report will be published in anonymized form on the International Students Office website to serve as a source of information for future students. Constructive criticism is certainly welcome. However, we reserve the right to delete defamatory or offensive passages entirely or to refrain from publishing the report, particularly if individuals are named.

The Transcript of Records (or other official document of academic performance issued by the host university) is typically issued by the partner universities toward the end of or after the completion of the study abroad program to document the academic achievements. As soon as you receive this document from the partner university, please upload it to Mobility Online.

Many Transcripts of Records are sent to us after you complete your semester abroad. We will notify you as soon as they arrive at the International Students Office (IStO). Don’t forget to upload your experience report after your stay (see below). You can then pick up your transcripts from the IStO shortly thereafter. 

Accomplishments completed abroad can be credited here at KIT. If you obtained the necessary letters of acceptance prior to the start of your semester abroad, you can now submit them to your professors. The credit transfer process is governed by your KIT Department. You can find information on this on your KIT Department’s exchange page.

The recognition and conversion of examinations earned abroad are generally the responsibility of the individual Departments. In practice, factors other than grades—such as the number of SWS, course content, and variations in grading distributions—often play a role. The Conference of Ministers of Education recommends the modified Bavarian formula as a practical basis for converting examination credits. In practice, it may be most convenient to use a conversion table you have found and to cite the source. However, these can only ever be recommendations!

 The “modified Bavarian formula”:

Where the following applies:

• x = Grade sought
• Nmax = Maximum grade (highest grade) on the respective grading scale
• N_D = Grade value to be converted
• N_min = Lowest passing grade on the respective grading scale

The maximum grade and the minimum passing grade should be based on the grading system used at the foreign university or for the respective degree program, as submitted by the student.

Example: Spain

The Spanish grading scale ranges from 0 to 10. The Spanish transcript indicates that the highest possible grade is 10 and the minimum passing grade is 5. The student earned an 8 on the exam. After applying the modified Bavarian formula, the converted German grade is 2.2.
