Important

Due to the strong demand and due to funding cuts by the DAAD, unfortunately no applications for pre-graduation scholarships, teaching- and research assistantships or for contact scholarships can be accepted this year. The budget has been used up for the financial year 2022.

Unfortunately, the funding for DAAD STIBET Doctoral Candidates has been completely cancelled for the budget year 2023. For further inquiries, please contact Oliver Kaas, DE INTL.

Contact scholarships

The aim of the contact scholarships is to support qualified doctoral students and to establish as well as deepen partnerships between KIT and foreign universities. Contact scholarships can therefore only be awarded to doctoral candidates from foreign partner universities or foreign universities with which partnership agreements have been concluded or are planned.

Target group

Foreign doctoral candidates from all disciplines.

Requirements

For awarding the grant to doctoral students, a doctoral agreement is required. Within six months upon the start of the grant, the doctoral candidate must be accepted by a KIT department with or without reservations. Contact scholarships can only be awarded to doctoral candidates from foreign partner universities or foreign universities with which partnership agreements have been concluded or are planned.

Application

  • The application must be sent via email by the applicant doctoral student.

  •

Documents to be submitted

  • Cover sheet.
  • CV of the applicant.
  • Letter of motivation of the applicant incl. milestones.
  • Application by the supervisor of the doctoral thesis at KIT stating that it is a partner university/cooperation or that a cooperation is planned in the future.
  • Letter of recommendation from the supervisor in the applicant's home country.

The application documents will be treated as confidential and will only be used for deciding on the contact grants.

Send the application documents in electronic form by email to the International Scholars and Welcome Office (DE INTL): oliver kaas∂kit edu.

Grant Decision

The application will be reviewed by internal audit. Information on the outcome is provided in writing.

Amount and Duration of Funding

The scholarship can initially be applied for six months and subsequently extended for another six months upon request. The grant amounts to a maximum of EUR 1200 per month. This amount is the maximum specified in the STIBET Program, which does not mean that it has to be paid in any case. Payment of smaller grants is possible as well. However, the amount should not be below EUR 250 per month. Deviations must be agreed upon with the DAAD in advance.

Conclusion

After the funding period a short final report shall be drawn up together with a photo of the doctoral candidate. The report will be published on the website under personal accounts.
