IScO´s Excursion: Technoseum in Mannheim
Führung
Treffpunkt in Karlsruhe, Hauptbahnhof

Join IScO for a guided tour in the Technoseum in Mannheim. The Technoseum is a museum of technology and social history that presents the development of science, industry, and everyday life from the eighteenth century to the present. It offers interactive exhibitions that show how technological innovations have shaped society and daily life over time.
Our 75 minutes long guided tour focuses on the history of inventions. Human creativity has produced new inventions throughout all periods of history, some of which were initially ignored or ridiculed, while others fundamentally changed human life. Until the eighteenth century, inventions were often created by craftsmen and independent inventors, but during the Enlightenment science and research increasingly took on this role, and innovation became more systematic and needs oriented. This tour highlights key inventions that introduced and accompanied the Industrial Revolution, including the steam engine, the mechanical loom, and the spinning machine, and further examples such as the Jacquard loom, the Drais running machine, and Benz’s Patent Motor Car illustrate the origins, success, and impact of an invention.
