A nationwide survey conducted by the German Rectors' Conference (HRK) is intended to identify optimization possibilities in the recognition and crediting practices of higher education institutions with regard to study and examination achievements and non-university competencies. The survey will run until December 15.

To begin a dialogue is a start, but cooperation and joint activities to implement projects or realise products are the goal for start-ups and companies. The format aims to bring together start-ups and companies from both regions with the most diverse interests and motivations for cooperation. This year, the student funding contest GROW is accepting participants from all EPICUR universities for the first time. EPICUR will enable all EPICUR finalists as well as successful participants of the EPICUR Entrepreneurial Lab to attend the “GROW in Action!” days that take place from December 8th to 18th, 2021 in Karlsruhe.

It is our clear goal to offer as many in-person courses as possible on the campus in the 2021/22 winter semester and normal academic education operations to the extent permitted. We are planning a mix of in-person, hybrid, and online courses.

The IfR, CuKnow and IECO hold an international lecture series entitled Critical perspectives and contending concepts of sustainability (21 October 2021 - 10 February 2022, Thursdays at 5 pm)

Experts from around the world will discuss the Western concept of sustainability, dismantle power structures, and present alternative (indigenous) perspectives for a more comprehensive understanding.

The lecture series is open to all students, PhD students and postdocs.

The German-Chilean project IECO is hosting the second edition of the IECO Days on October 5 and 6. This time, the highlight will be an expert panel on technology transfer in the field of green hydrogen. In addition, there will be scientific sessions around the approach of Eco-Industrial Development. Scientists, students and professionals are welcome.

The Sino-European Engineering Education Platform (SEEEP or SE3P aims to promote substantial collaboration between Institutions of High Education in Engineering in both China and Europe. The yearly 2-week Energy PhD school will take place between 16 and 27 August. The theme this year is “Energy Transition: Pathways towards net zero”, the course will be online. Application until June 30.

A year without Tour Eucor? Impossible! The Tour Eucor Lite is a short version of the normal cross-border bike tour. It will take place from September 4th to 5th, 2021 and consists of a two-day bike tour from Offenburg, via Strasbourg, to Karlsruhe. Registration is possible until July 25th.

Sustainability and quantum technology were two of the central themes during the visit of the French Ambassador, Anne-Marie Descôtes, and the Consul General Catherine Veber at KIT. They exchanged views with Vice President Thomas Hirth and scientists about the prospects for Franco-German cooperation.

With its first Steering Committee Meeting, the BMBF funded Network project “Institute of Eco-Industrial development” (IECO) celebrated another milestone on 04 May 2021. Vice President Prof. Thomas Hirth highlighted the long-standing history of cooperation between the KIT and the three Chilean universities.

Eucor - The European announces 28 PhD positions for its cross-border PhD program "EURIdoc". These are located at the Universities of Basel, Freiburg and Strasbourg as well as at KIT and the University Medical Center Freiburg and focus on the main topics hematopoiesis and development of the immune system, innate and adaptive immunity, and immune diseases.
The application deadline is June 14, 2021.

The area around the former nuclear power plant Fessenheim is to be developed into an innovation model for industry and energy transition - with cross-border cooperation. Eucor - The European Campus and the Upper Rhine Cluster for Sustainability Research are developing a feasibility study.

German, swiss and french post-docs and scientists, who work together in the cross-border cooperation, especially in the framework of Eucor – The European Campus, will benefit greatly from this course. With the "Eucor Upper Rhine Immunology doctoral program (EURIdoc)", the trinational "Eucor network" with KIT participation is expanding its offer for international PhD students. The European Commission has selected the project in the research framework program "Horizon 2020" and will support it with 3 million euros over the next five years.

ICoP I was successful with two applications in program lines of the DAAD. A KIT Alumni Seminar in Santiago de Chile is planned for the fall. In addition, the application for the implementation of a Summer School for PhD students, which was initiated and designed by the IECO team, was successful. 

The trinational university network Eucor awards start-up funding to two KIT projects in the field of "Teaching" for the year 2021: Geothermal Master Field School (Thomas Kohl, AGW) and Innovation dashboard seminar (Ingrid Ott, Economic Policy). The project From Precision Soft Matter Synthesis to GRAdient PolyMeric MAteRials (Patrick Théato, ITCP) was successful in the area "Research and Innovation".

On 8th December 2020, the Ministry for Science, Research and Arts of the State of Baden-Württemberg organized the public event “European University Alliances: European Lighthouses at the Heart of Regional Innovation Ecosystems”. Among representatives of the five Higher Education Institutions of the state, the two EPICUR partners “Karlsruhe Institute for Technology” (KIT) and the “University of Freiburg” (ALU-FR) were invited to present their European University Alliance. They shared their Ideas on the topics "Research, teaching and innovation as the cornerstone of the alliances" (KIT) and “Between inclusivity and excellence” (ALU-FR) with video clips.
