Why take part in a double degree program?
In times of increasing internationalization, experience abroad and the ability to cooperate interculturally are becoming more and more important. A longer stay abroad not only gives you extensive language skills, but also valuable experience of the working methods and culture in the country of the partner university. This will qualify you for the companies of tomorrow.
Where can I do a double degree program?
KIT offers various double degree programs with its partner universities. You can find an overview of our partner universities at the top of the page.
Who can participate in a double degree program?
All KIT students whose degree programs offer a double degree program. In order to participate in a double degree program on the part of KIT, the applicant must already be enrolled at KIT. Students who are enrolled at one of the partner universities in France can apply for a double degree program with KIT at their home university.

Can I apply directly to KIT with an Abibac?
With an Abibac, you can apply to KIT without any problems, the procedure is the same as with a German Abitur. New applicants to KIT should also note the answer to the previous question.
As a German citizen with a French Baccalauréat (no Abibac), the degree must first be recognized by a regional council (if resident in Germany: Stuttgart, otherwise Düsseldorf).
What are the admission requirements for a double degree program?
Good grades, good language skills (French/German) and personal commitment are expected.
How does a double degree program actually work?
The double degree programs are structured differently depending on the subject. The program either covers a Bachelor's and a Master's degree or only a Master's degree is offered. In general, the process can be described as follows:
1. start of the degree program
2. application in the third semester
3. language course
4. first phase in France or Germany
5. second phase in the other country
How and where can I apply for a double degree program?
For students with home university KIT:
Application for admission to the programs (application deadline: January 15. Please also note the internal faculty deadlines!)
For students with a home university in France:

Please complete your application and send it with the documents listed below:

- and by e-mail to your program coordinator
The complete application documents include
- the application form
- a transcript of records
- a curriculum vitae in tabular form
- a letter of motivation
After successful submission of the application documents, a selection interview will take place. The interviews take place in the 2-3 weeks following the application deadline. The interview is followed by a quick acceptance or rejection.
How is the double degree program financed and what are the costs?
The German-French double degree programs at KIT are funded by the Franco-German University (DFH). This means that all double degree students receive a mobility grant. This grant amounts to 10x 350 € per year (can be combined with BAföG). Information on funding can be found on the DFH website.

How do I find an apartment in Karlsruhe?
The first point of contact is the Studierendenwerk, which manages most of the halls of residence in Karlsruhe. They offer affordable rooms and it is easy to get in touch with other students. More information can be found on the Studierendenwerk website.
It is also possible to look for a room on the private housing market. This is usually done via online portals such as wg-gesucht.de.
How can I improve my language skills?
The Franco-German University and the Deutsch-Uni Online offer free online language courses for students on Franco-German degree courses. Expand your academic and technical language skills and prepare yourself specifically for your stay at the partner university in Germany or France!
The courses on the DUO learning platform start every first Wednesday of the month. You can access the learning materials flexibly for six months and learn when, where and how you want. A teacher will answer your questions and give you individual feedback. In weekly group activities and online meetings, you can exchange ideas with other learners and apply what you have learned. If you successfully complete the course, you will receive a certificate (with 3 ECTS). You can expect to work at least 2 (to 3) hours per week.
