Convention de stage - Internship Agreement

A form called a "Convention de stage" is often required for an internship in France. This regulates insurance and data protection issues in particular. Without a completed Convention de stage signed by their home university, students are generally not allowed to start their internship in France.

One of the reasons for this is that interns in France are normally covered by accident insurance through their home university. In Germany, on the other hand, accident insurance through the university is only valid for as long as the students are at the university; it therefore does not apply to internships abroad and private accident insurance must be taken out for the duration of the stay abroad.

The relevant forms (available in English, French or German, as a Convention de stage may also be required in other countries, such as Spain or Belgium, in order to be able to start an internship) can be downloaded and used for this purpose:

Please note that for legal reasons, KIT does not allow you to sign a company's own convention de stage, but only the agreements provided here. Please clarify this in advance with your potential internship provider.

Procedure:

Download the sample contract and fill in the relevant passages.

Then print out 3 originals of the contract and sign it.

Send all originals to the internship provider for signature.

Finally, submit the contract to KIT-DeFI for signature. Please arrange a personal appointment for this at defi∂intl.kit.edu.

When you come to KIT-DeFI to sign the internship agreement, please bring the following documents with you:

  • Certificate(s) of enrollment valid for the entire period of the internship (e.g. if your internship lasts from September 1 to October 15, you will need one certificate of enrollment for the summer semester and one for the winter semester)
  • a copy of both sides of your health insurance card and the European health insurance card
  • Proof of liability insurance with cover abroad
  • Proof of accident insurance with cover abroad

One original remains with KIT-DeFI, the other two originals - one for you and one for the internship provider - can be picked up after signing.

Please submit the complete documents to KIT-DeFI at least 2 weeks before the start of the internship so that they can be signed in time. Documents submitted after this deadline may no longer be considered.
