Europe is at the heart of KIT's international activities in research, teaching, and transfer. This is reflected in the numerous and intensive bilateral collaborations with European partners. In addition, KIT belongs to six international university networks, four of which are European networks.
France is of particular importance due to its geographical proximity and many long-standing partnerships. As a Franco-German innovation driver for Europe, KIT works with its long-standing French partners to develop pioneering research and transfer collaborations as well as numerous double degree programs. KIT also maintains close cooperation with its partners in Greece and the United Kingdom. The focus here is on joint research projects, which are accompanied by a wide range of teaching and transfer activities.
In addition, ICoP supports the establishment of interdisciplinary networks in Eastern Europe, the South Caucasus, and Central Asia. KIT cooperates with numerous other countries and universities in cutting-edge research and strategically develops new collaborations. Current and tailored information on this is available on request.
Through its membership in four university associations, KIT actively shapes the European higher education and research landscape. Its involvement in the Upper Rhine region began back in 1989 with the European Confederation of Upper Rhine Universities, now known as Eucor – The European Campus. This pioneering alliance, with its diverse opportunities for cooperation and participation, formed the nucleus for the establishment of the European university alliance EPICUR, within which KIT is developing innovative cooperation approaches with eight other European partners.
Two thematic alliances with European universities complement the KIT network. On the one hand, KIT is actively involved in the CLUSTER network, an alliance of twelve European elite universities in the field of natural sciences and engineering, whose goal is to improve the quality of research and teaching in the engineering disciplines. Secondly, KIT is a member of the recognized interest group CESAER, the Conference of European Schools for Advanced Engineering Education and Research, which includes more than 50 leading universities in science and technology from 25 European countries.
