International Study Start: Safely Online - Prevention Strategies on the Topic of Fraud in Apartment Hunting
Introduction Event
online via Zoom
The internet makes many things easier – including the search for an apartment. Especially for students, it is often the most important way to quickly and easily find a room or an apartment. At the same time, fraudsters deliberately exploit this situation: fake apartment listings, dubious rental offers, identity theft, or advance payment scams are not uncommon. Those especially affected are students looking for an apartment for the first time, as well as international first-semester students who are not yet familiar with local conditions and typical fraud schemes. The combination of time pressure, housing shortages, and lack of experience makes them a frequent target group. But anyone who knows the common forms of fraud and observes some basic safety precautions can effectively protect themselves. This is exactly where the event comes in: it provides an overview of typical risks when searching for an apartment online and gives concrete recommendations for safe conduct.
Additionally, a representative of the police will give a short lecture on current forms of fraud and prevention options.
Important Notes:
-The workshop will be conducted in German.
- Individual case questions cannot be addressed; however, general questions are welcome.

Start of Studies for Internationals: Studying with a Plan
Introduction Event
KIT, Campus Süd
50.20 Raum 003
…
Every degree program has certain rules. Being familiar with them can be very helpful, for example, in finding the right lectures. Or it can be important if your studies are not going as you had hoped.
This workshop consists of three parts:
In the first part, you will learn the basics of studying at KIT:
What does KIT require in order for you to receive a bachelor's or master's degree?
What is KIT's role in this?
At what points in your studies might it become difficult to continue studying? So what should you pay attention to?
In the second part, you will learn specifically how you can use these regulations to create your timetable. A student will explain the university's own Campus Management Systems and Ilias programs, which you can use together with the module handbook to organize your studies. The student will also inform you
what you need to pay attention to and
where you are free to make your own decisions.
Here you can also share your experiences with each other. We will help you with specific cases.
In the third part, we would like to draw your attention to important places at KIT where you can get various kinds of help with your studies.
The event will be held in English and, if necessary, in German.
