Baden-Württemberg/North Carolina Faculty Mobility Program
As part of the cooperation between the Ministry of Science, Research and the Arts Baden-Württemberg and The University of North Carolina System, the collaboration between researchers is to be given greater focus. For the calendar year 2026, the Ministry of Science, Research and the Arts Baden-Württemberg is therefore offering travel grants for short visits by researchers to initiate new collaborations or strengthen existing partnerships.
Researchers from the nine research universities in Baden-Württemberg and the universities in North Carolina participating in the state program who are interested in closer cooperation and want to actively participate in the state program have the opportunity to apply for these travel grants.
Funding period/amount
The travel grant in the amount of 1,200 euros (one-time lump sum) is available for short-term stays of one week or more in 2026 at one of the universities participating in the state program in North Carolina or Baden-Württemberg.

The complete application includes the following documents
- Application form
- a curriculum vitae with a list of publications (in English)
- detailed project description including reasons for selecting the host / host institution and the significance of the trip for future cooperation (max. 3 pages, in English)
- Invitation from the host

The University of Mannheim coordinates the state's cooperation with North Carolina within Baden-Württemberg.
Application deadline and further procedure
The application deadline is October 15, 2025. The Ministry of Science, in cooperation with the coordination offices at the University of Mannheim and the University of North Carolina Greensboro, will decide on the awarding of travel grants by December 2025.
