Baden-Württemberg State Program / North Carolina Faculty Mobility Program
As part of the partnership between the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Science, Research, and the Arts and the University of North Carolina System, the focus will be placed more strongly on collaboration among researchers. For the calendar year 2026, the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Science, Research, and the Arts is therefore offering travel grants for short visits by researchers, with the aim of initiating new collaborations or strengthening existing partnerships.
Researchers from the nine research universities in Baden-Württemberg, as well as from the universities in North Carolina participating in the state program, who are interested in closer collaboration and wish to actively contribute to the state program, are eligible to apply for these travel grants.
Duration and Amount of Funding
The travel grant in the amount of 1,200 euros (one-time lump sum) is available for short-term stays of at least one week in 2026 at one of the universities participating in the state program in North Carolina or Baden-Württemberg.
Application
The complete application must include the following documents:
- Application form
- a resume with a list of publications (in English)
- A detailed project description, including the rationale for selecting the host institution and the significance of the trip for future collaboration (max. 3 pages, in English)
- An invitation from the host institution.
Applications must be submitted via email (all documents attached as a single PDF file) to Mr. Lukas Dausend, Office of International Affairs, University of Mannheim: lukas.dausend∂uni-mannheim.de.
The University of Mannheim coordinates the state’s cooperation with North Carolina within Baden-Württemberg.
Application Deadline and Further Procedure
The application deadline is October 31, 2026. The Ministry of Science, in collaboration with the coordination offices at the University of Mannheim and the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, will decide on the allocation of travel grants by December 2025.
