On 29 September 2026, a delegation from CEA visited the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT). The aim of the visit was to further strengthen cooperation between the two institutions and jointly address the major societal challenges currently facing Europe.

Efforts to intensify cooperation between the two research institutions date back to 2019, when an agreement was signed covering, in particular, the fields of energy technologies, climate and the environment.

Following a tour of selected KIT research facilities, KIT President Jan H. Hesthaven and CEA Director General Anne-Isabelle Etienvre co-chaired a meeting of the Strategic Committee, which was also attended by the Science Counsellor of the French Embassy in Germany, Siegfried Martin-Diaz. The meeting provided an opportunity to define shared priorities and explore concrete opportunities for collaboration. In the presence of experts from both institutions, discussions focused in particular on energy systems, photovoltaic technologies, batteries, fusion, and small modular reactors (SMRs).
