Visit of the President of Tohoku University

On April 17, 2026, Professor Dr. Teiji Tominaga, President of Tohoku University, visited the KIT with a high-ranking delegation. During their visit to the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), the delegation from Tohoku University participated in a comprehensive program focusing on research exchange and future cooperation opportunities.

The visit began with a tour of KASTEL – Institute of Information Security and Dependability where the delegation received insights into current research activities in information security and dependability.

Following the institute visit, the guests met with the President of Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, Prof. Dr. Jan S. Hesthaven, together with Vice President Transfer and International Affairs Prof. Dr. Klaus Rümmele and Prof. Dr. Eric Sax, Dean of KIT Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology ETIT. The meeting included short presentations on KIT, Tohoku University, and the KIT Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology, with a particular focus on semiconductor research.

In addition, the participants discussed possibilities for strengthening future cooperation between both institutions. The program also included a guestbook entry by President Tominaga and a joint group photo.

The delegation also visited the Karlsruhe Grid Computing Centre GridKa to learn more about scientific computing activities and research infrastructure at KIT.

The program concluded with a visit to the German Robotics Center and the KIT Center Information – Systems – Technologies. The delegation gained insights into ongoing robotics research and interdisciplinary technology development at KIT.
