International collaboration is of particular high importance in top-level research. Excellence lives on competition and on exchange among the best researchers worldwide. By establishing the International Excellence Grants (IEG) with funds granted to the University of Excellence concept “The Research University in the Helmholtz Association I Living the Change,” the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) intends to
- to strengthen its renewal capability and top-level research,
- to expand its network to strengthen international recruiting, and
- to support strategic cooperation with international top-level universities and research institutions.

Festliche Verleihung des „International Excellence Award of KIT“ und der „Fellowship of SCHROFF Foundation“ an Ron Kikinis, MD, B. Leonard Holman Professor für Radiologie, Harvard Medical School, Gründungsdirektor des Surgical Planning Laboratory (SPL), Abteilung für Radiologie, Brigham and Women’s Hospital.
Mit dieser Auszeichnung würdigt das KIT den renommierten Wissenschaftler für die Entwicklung innovativer Ansätze in der Bildinformatik, der bildgeführten Chirurgie und der medizinischen Bildanalyse, die weltweit von großer Relevanz sind. Die Vergabe des „International Excellence Award of KIT“ beinhaltet zudem eine Einladung an Dr. Kikinis, bis zu sechs Monate am KIT zu forschen.
