Calender of Events: International Affairs
|Mar. 25, 2020, 13:00 - 17:00|
|Karlsruhe Institute of Technology|
Bldg. 30.95, Seminar room A+B
As a scientist, you regularly need to process new information about complex phenomena and convey such knowledge to individuals unfamiliar with the respective subject matter (e.g. students, researchers from other fields). As it is now widely recognized, visual aids can greatly support the processes of understanding and communicating scientific concepts.
However, many important types of visualisation in science (e.g. images, infographics or animations) require considerable preparation and are thus unsuitable when you spontaneously need to make difficult topics more accessible (as, for example, in problem-solving, brainstorming or Q&A sessions). To enhance scientists’ thinking and communicating in everyday situations, less demanding ways for visualizing ideas are thus needed.
This seminar introduces you to some easy-to-use and versatile visual tools, in particular knowledge maps and relational diagrams, that enable you to effortlessly visualize your thinking on the spot using pen and paper, stylus and tablet or even Powerpoint. You will thus be able to represent scientific information in a way that is more comprehensible – both to yourself and to others.
Please note: This seminar shows you how to craftily use a simple visual vocabulary to display scientific concepts and their relations. If you already have some background in graphic design, visual storytelling or data visualisation, or wish to obtain deeper knowledge about these topics, this seminar might be too basic for you.
The seminar will be held in English.
This seminar is open to doctoral and postdoctoral researchers at KIT who are KHYS members.
