Workshop

Threatened Researchers – The Power of Science

Tuesday, 12 December 2017, 14:00-18:00
Senate Hall
KIT, Campus Süd
Geb. 11.30
Kaiserstraße 12
76131 Karlsruhe

From its very beginning, KIT has successfully committed itself in the Philipp Schwartz Initiative in support of threatened researchers launched by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation as a host institution with a concept of its own and has actively participated in the Scholars at Risk Network.

Accommodation of and cooperation with threatened researchers is associated with a number of challenges and questions: How can the scholars be offered protection and safety and, at the same time, the results of their work be published? Which personal biographies and fates are associated with flight and displacement? How can researchers at the host institutions enter into dialog and develop and gain an understanding of these biographies so that the new colleagues meet with adequate acceptance and reception in this highly competitive scientific environment that is entirely new to them? Which role can existing networks, scientific and non-scientific, play, examples being the Humboldt Network or the Humboldt Regional Group?

You are invited to discuss these and many other questions with representatives of various organizations and fellow researchers at an international workshop organized at KIT by the International Scholars & Welcome Office in cooperation with ZAK and the Karlsruhe-Pforzheim Humboldt Regional Group.
