IStO's excursion to "Heidelberg" on July 7th 2018

Samstag, 07. Juli 2018, 9:00-18:00
Meeting at the Karlsruhe main station (Hauptbahnhof) main hall under the electronic display at 9:00 am

„[…] the most extensive view, and it is one of the loveliest that can be imagined, too. Out of a billowy up heaval of vivid green foliage, a rifle-shot removed, rises the huge ruin of Heidelberg Castle, with empty window arches, ivy-mailed battlements, moldering towers - the Lear of inanimate nature -deserted, discrowned, beaten by the storms, but royal still, and beautiful. It is a fine sight to see the evening sunlight suddenly strike the leafy declivity at the Castle's base and dash up it and drench it as with a luminous spray, while the adjacent groves are in deep shadow.“ Mark Twain, A Tramp Abroad, 1880

Like once described by Mark Twain, Heidelberg is known for its beautiful landscape, the picturesque old town with its castle ruin, as well as the oldest university of Germany.

We join a guided tour (approximately 1,5h) through the old town of Heidelberg. Afterwards you have the possibility to visit a museum like the “German Pharmacy Museum” or the “University museum”. If you like to discover the German kitchen, there are many places and restaurants to try a “Schnitzel” or “Spätzle”.

What will it cost? Train tickets will be bought individually. However, there are cheap tickets available and can be arranged on Saturday morning. These are e.g. 9.60 € per person if you travel in a group of five or 23 € for a single ticket (check: “Baden-Württemberg-Ticket”).

Do I need to register? Yes, please register here, stating name, e-mail, nationality and KIT institute by 13th July.
Whom can I contact should I have further questions? Please contact lisa sprenger9 does-not-exist.kit edu
