Preparation

First of all, you should choose the most suitable exchange program for you and find out how you will finance your stay. You should contact the appropriate department of your home university (e.g. International Office) for this purpose.

Worldwide, the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology has numerous partner universities through direct cooperation or the State of Baden-Wuerttemberg.
It is also possible to apply directly at KIT’s International Students Office as a free mover without your home university having an agreement with KIT.

You can apply about a year before your planned arrival preferably through our Portal for Applicants or by mail. If you are coming as an exchange student from a partner university, your home institution has to nominate you first, before you can apply.

At least 6 months before your arrival and after you have been accepted for a study stay at KIT, you should obtain a visa, find a place to live and take out insurance.
