Academic Calendar

The academic year is divided into two semesters in Germany, the winter and the summer semester.

Most courses start in the winter semester (WS) and run from October until the middle of February. In the summer semester (SS), the earliest lectures start in April and end in July. There are also Christmas and Pentecost holidays.

During the lecture-free time, exams take place and students have the opportunity to do internships. 

Lecture times at KIT 

¹ According to a resolution of the KIT-Senat dated October 19, 2020, the extended examination period will be realized in summer term 2022 for the very last time.

Christmas/New Year break: December 24 - January 6.

From 2021 the Pentecost/Whitsun week is lecture-free.

Re-registration period:

for the Summersemester   15.01. – 15.02.
for the Wintersemester   01.07. – 15.08.
