The Centre of Open and Distance Learning (Zentrum für Mediales Lernen - ZML) of KIT is a scientific institution dealing with the design, development, implementation and evaluation of distance-learning and blended-learning courses in higher and continuing education. The KIT Dual Career Service supports partners of professors, managers, and senior scientists with executive tasks who just moved to Karlsruhe in their professional and social integration. Much general information is given at our website. For young scientists (PhD or Postdocs) in a dual career situation can also use the KIT JobPortal for their individual career orientation.

The House of Competence (HoC) is the central KIT institution for research and training of cross-curricular competencies. HoC provides free study courses and individual trainings for students of all subjects and study level in a vast field of key competencies The main focus is on academic learning, scientific methods, communication and presentation as well as scientific writing and preparation for job-related requirements. Students from abroad will find assistance and counseling in matters such as qualitative methods, learning techniques, scientific writing and presentation.

The Humboldt-Regional group Karlsruhe-Pforzheim of the German Society of Humboldtians, founded in 2011, promotes the exchange of Humboldtians among each other and with other international researchers. They provide also mutual help to scientists. Special Offer: Several times a year scientific presentations by top speakers from different fields are held for the interested public.

Das Institut für Technikfolgenabschätzung und Systemanalyse (ITAS) erforscht wissenschaftliche und technische Entwicklungen in Bezug auf systemische Zusammenhänge und Technikfolgen. The International Relations office supports students in the Department of Economics and Management during their study abroad. The support is aimed at students of the Department of Economics and Management as well as students from our partner universities and foreign students who would like to apply for one of our regular master programmes. [+] International Student Center (ISC) of the Studierendenwerk Karlsruhe

The International Student Center (ISC) of the Studierendenwerk Karlsruhe is responsible for the students of the universities in Karlsruhe and Pforzheim. Our main task is to provide advice and support regarding student life (Searching for accommodation or a job, Social counselling, Studying with children etc.), to integrate the international students and to cultivate the international networks. With our program, (excursions, cultural events, international evenings, language partners, sponsorships, and exchange programs for students) we want to invite the students to experience community, including multicultural community in small groups. Our dedicated and multicultural team prepares each semester a multifaceted program and invites all students to experience cultural exchange. Our program includes also exchange with national and international institutions, resulting in prolonged and successful projects (Chinese Culinary and Cultural Days, Japan Days, German-French-Polish Exchange etc.).

The Karlsruhe House of Young Scientists (KHYS) is the central institution for the promotion of young scientists at KIT. It addresses all doctoral researchers, junior postdocs and their supervisors. In addition it also targets those interested in doing a PhD at KIT. Apart from the overall quality assurance of the PhD framework conditions KHYS focuses on the development of competencies and self-reliance, on career-building and the networking of young scientists within KIT and on a global scale. KHYS uses special measures to comprehensively promote junior scientists. In addition the unit offers extensive consulting and information services concerning financing issues and topics such as doing a PhD at KIT.

[+] MINT-Kolleg Baden-Württemberg

In order to make the transition from school to university as smooth as possible, the MINT-Kolleg Baden-Württemberg offers many helpful programmes to prepare for academic study in the MINT-subjects (MINT stand for Mathematics, Information Technology, Natural sciences, Technology/Engineering). Preparatory studies programme, study-related courses, exam-preparation courses and interactive online courses in basic disciplines such as Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Information Sciences are aimed at prospective students and incoming first-year students. Due to the relatively small number of students the MINT-Kolleg can ensure a student-orientated intensive workload and supervision on individual basis.

The Representative for Students with Disabilities and Chronic Diseases at KIT offers professional counselling, information and support regarding all topics concerning studies at university: from entering Higher Education, accompanying the study career to entering the Labour Market. The main goal is to establish equal opportunities and participation such as accessible study material and exams, access to infrastructure, awareness-rising and networking in order to improve inclusion.

[+] Stadtwiki Karlsruhe

The Stadtwiki Karlsruhe is an online portal (city wiki) for Karlsruhe and the surrounding areas with commercial-free text and images to all areas. As with Wikipedia anyone can join here. Stadtwiki is available in German, Russian, English, French and Spanish and is supported by a non-profit association in Karlsruhe.

The Studienkolleg at KIT offers preparatory and study-related German courses at various levels.Alongside general language courses, courses for special skills e.g. Scientific writing, Presentationskills and a German course focusing on the MINT subjects are offered to international students, academics and their partners during the semester. The Studienkolleg advises and supports international students and KIT employees as they learn the German language.

[+] Study Centre for the Visually Impaired

The Study Centre for the Visually Impaired (SZS) supports students with blindness and low vision during their studies at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology. The SZS service consists of transfer and adaptation of literature and exams, access to graphics, counselling and guidance. At the SZS, there is a working room with assistive and information technologies for students with visual impairment. The SZS offers a regular meeting during the semester to get in contact with other students. In May, there is an information event for persons who intend to study. The SZS research programs focus on mathematical working environments, access to graphics as well as assistive and information technologies.

[+] ZAK │Centre for Cultural and General Studies

The ZAK is a central academic unit at the KIT. Our fields of activity consist of interdisciplinary General Studies and public science as well as applied research in cultural studies. We offer access to excellent supplementary qualifications to all students of the KIT and foster interdisciplinary and intercultural education. We also focus on consolidating the cross-curricular communication within the KIT and on strengthening the dialogue between science and society.
