Sustainability in science, work and private life

Sustainability is one of the top topics of our time, everybody talks about it, everybody wants to be involved. But what does ‘sustainable development’ or ‘sustainability research’ actually mean? The Sustainability Spring Days offer the opportunity to 360 students, to explore how science can contribute to understanding and fostering the sustainability of technical, social and ecological systems and how sustainability research itself can become an active driver of sustainable development.

In 16 parallel workshops, different methods of sustainability research will be applied to various fields of sustainable developments. With methods like scenario analyses, Life Cycle Assessment or serious gaming, the sustainability of every day cases will be analysed. A field trip to local companies or institutions will allow an insight into professional work life and the different settings and disciplines relevant for sustainable development.
The program of the project days will be completed by a public keynote speech and a “Fair of Opportunities” – where initiatives, groups and companies from KIT and the Karlsruhe region will present their activities for a sustainable development, offering exchange, information and networking.

Up to 60 participants will have the chance to engage in additional ‘sustainability experiments’ in their own life, which will be evaluated on a scientific basis.

The Sustainability Spring Days are open to all students interested in sustainable development. Participation does not require any pre-knowledge.

Workshops will also be offered in English language. The public keynote speech as well as the field trips will be held in German.

Credits:
2 credits for participation in all parts of the project days, 3 credits with additional reflection report, 4 credits with additional sustainability experiment
